I think it has something to do with the placement of some type of business order as the addressee, H.C. Thacher of Boston, was involved in Mediterranean trade. Its just my luck to acquire letters written by people whose handwriting is worse than my own!

I thought it sounded like a personal note from a friend or former colleague. What do I know.

I looked at your link re: business. found this on ebay.

Here's 3 pages of genealogical research (under entry #1311) that I believe refers to the H.C. Thacher (as in Henry Charles Thacher) as referred to on the cover in the previous post:
