September 11, 1944.
Two letters postmarked Chicopee, Mass. each sporting a stamp from the Overrun Countries series. Sgt. Loneto gets Austria while Private Smith gets Belgium.

I don't think these were addressed by the same person - different pens and slightly different handwriting. Perhaps sisters or girlfriends writing to their honeys off at war?

September 12 1925, Minneapolis to Clearwater MN

Not an unusual cover, but befoer this one I hadn't noticed a postmark that had the year outside the circle. That's probably not unusual either but it's new for me.

September 12, 1941, Field Post Office

Believe I've shown this one before. It is backstamped on September 11 (guess I could have used it yesterday too) from the 12th Army Tank Battalion Orderly Room. The envelope bears the insignia of the Knights of Columbus War Services.

For any who are curious as to the "Anthony Wayne" stamp on the last cover posted by wt1, a bio on the man can be found at http://www.waynetownship.com/his-gen.htm

My submission for September 14th, a first day cover for the Belgium Overrun Countries issuance in Washington, DC in 1943.

September 14 1936, New York to Minneapolis

Again, year outside the circle on the cancellation. I'm seeing them everywhere now.

Raggedy cover but the sender and recipient are interesting. Clyde Trees was the president of Medallic Arts Company. They made a good portion of the medals that were awarded during WWII, including the Purple Hearts.

He was also my grandfather's uncle--- the same grandfather that left his stamp collection to me. Uncle Clyde was kind of cantankerous and I was afraid of him. After reading in the following link what he went through with his business I'm not surprised he was cantankerous. My mother has a collection of medallions that were produced by Medallic Arts.

Quote:
In the 1940's Medallic Art was selling tens of millions of military service medals to the US Government. Clyde Trees invested these proceeds into land and equipment for the company.

Like the fictional Daddy Warbucks, the war and its aftermath made Clyde Trees into a millionaire.

An interesting pictorial history of the Medallic Art Company can be found at this link:

This first day cover from Zion National Park, Utah on September 18, 1934 has led a rough existence. Fortunately, the non-stamp side bore the brunt of it.

A postmark used today, September 19, 2012 in Barcelona at 5.30 p.m. (11.30 a.m. on the US East Coast), on the 2012 Barcelona's Water Supply Company Employees Philatelic Show.
There, you can see an "Olympic fountain" given by Barcelona Water Supply Co. to the city, for the 1992 Olympics. This one is called "La Pilota" ("the ball" in Catalan) and it's located near a remaining of Barcelona's 15th century walls.
Since 1981, this Philatelic group issues yearly a postmark depicting a fountain of Barcelona, drawn by a good friend of mine, Joaquim Baliarda. The complete collection is already quite impressive.
