I never connected that embossed envelope to the sloop "Restaurationen" until I read the newspaper article link posted earlier.

However, did you know it's not the first time that vessel was commemorated on a US stamp? Although you have to go all the way back to the 1925 to find it (Scott 620):



Not by coincidence, that 1925 stamp was also issued in several first day cities, including Minneapolis, Minnesota!

This actually has the contents. It was from a soldier in the Army writing home stating that he was looking forward to engaging the Japanese! Really neat. He was also thrilled to get a ride in a Jeep!

The embossed stamp is from J. B. Millington & Co., St. Louis. The inner circle reads "Commission Merchants" and then provides either a number or an abbreviation (I can't make it out) and the words "Locust St."
