November 29 1944, Another from Master Sargent Riches of the Minnesota Red Bulls



1940 census tells that Robert C. Riches was born in 1915 in Winnipeg Manitoba so he would have been about 29 years old when he wrote this letter. In 1940 his father, Alvin S. Riches, was a bookkeeper for a linseed oil manufacturer and Robert was an assistant buyer for a pump and paint manufacturer.

November 29, 1944 from APO 689:



In March 1944, the 20th General Hospital arrived in Ledo, Assam, India, to care for the allied troops on the Ledo road project.

December 1 1954



E Wyllys Andrews (1916-1971) was a prominent archeologist and anthropologist who spent most of his life excavating Mayan ruins and studying Mayan culture. In the mid-50s he traveled overland in Africa to visit Louis Leakey. He met the woman who would become his 3rd wife in the Belgian Congo in 1955 when she was working there for the US Foreign Service.
