It seems surprising that Harrison would have let that perf error out the door.

Hey-hey! Thanks BeeSee, I have the intentions of trying to post at the very least weekly onto this thread and I am glad to hear folks are diggin' the Downey's!

I have to cruise, but I would like to wrap it up today with a collage I created using Google Picasa ~

Thanks for having a look, and as always I look forward to any and all feedback, opinions, observations or questions, and Please post any scans you may have of your own 1d. Downey Heads!

Have a Good One,

Skilo54

I think so too Cjd, that is why I feel pretty lucky to have been able to pick it up. I have seen similar perf errors on larger blocks, so know they did occasionally make the streets.

I wish I could buy the larger block, just a bit pricey is all!

Have a good one,

Hi folks,

I just posted this on the 'Why KGV' thread, but I have to include it here on the 1d. Downey Head thread too!

I hope you all can forgive me! Here are some 1d. Mint Downey Heads in a collage created in Google Picasa

I bought this from a dealer in Aberdeen years ago. Just was "browsing" and took an interest in this "Head" purely because of what was written on the back. It reads "337 invW". So that would be SG337 with inverted watermark which does not seem to be right. I'd appreciate the expert eye of Skilo54 giving it a looksee. For £1.50 I had a bargain in any case.

Hi there scotzm, nice stamp you have there and I agree that was a good deal for £1.50

This stamp is a Die 1b ~ SG 336/37 ~ N10(b) - Watermark Simple Cypher inverted, catalogue value for Used being £30, the same as a normal watermark 336 in my 4 Kings catalogue. These stamps were used in booklets which helps to explain why no premium is given for that variety. If the watermark was inverted and reversed the CV would jump to £200, you should double-check your copy, but I am sure it is only inverted based on your scan.

A couple observations: i)white gash on KGV's eyebrow? ii) several white dots in the 'ONE PENNY' tablet. These could just be flecks of crud, could be transitory, but I always have a gander!

Have a good one, and thanks for adding to this thread! I am still a student of this issue and by no means an expert, but I am glad to be able to help where I can.

It's always a Die 1b ~ SG 336/37 ~ N10(b) - Watermark Simple Cypher inverted isn't it!. Open an album...there he is. Good old Die 1b ~ SG 336/37 ~ N10(b) - Watermark Simple Cypher inverted . Thank you King George V for have a Die 1b ~ SG 336/37 ~ N10(b) - Watermark Simple Cypher inverted stamp.

Actually, this means I will have to go over some of my early collected material. At the time I think all I wanted was "one light beard, one dark Beard, one shaded lion, one unshaded lion" sort of thing. At least I have them mint and used. Now I can look forward to sorting them out properly.
Thanks for the ID.

Nice Die 2 Cjd, and a beautiful strike to boot! It is always a nice bonus when the date information is able to be read, and the postmark is applied clean and crisp!

Here are a couple Die 1A that I happen to have scanned, to accompany yours above.

Thanks for adding to the Downey Head thread, it is always fantastic to see others!

Have a Good One,

Following on from your excellent tutorial/ display...(I must go find my SG Kings one day)... this must be a bog-standard 1912 Imperial Crown SG339.

Thanks for re-awakening my interest in such things. It's been years and many pairs of glasses since I have looked at the kings.
