Thank you for the kind words and welcome! For the Canada overprints, I have now discovered from a source that these are apparently known from some other examples so attribution to the Royal visit of 1939, as suggested by the overprints, seems valid. As the format and typeface of the USA overprints are identical to the Canada ones, they tend to support each other. Perhaps more will come to light in future, even maybe an example postally used.
I acquired them in December 2008 and have been looking for other examples ever since, without success. I had begun to wonder if they might have been some sort of one-off private overprint (rather than a commercial type) or something of that ilk; maybe a trial for a commercial idea that was never publicly issued (this is still possible as they do seem to be rather rare).
Posting them here has led to more information so it does prove the value of forums like this. It is nice that they have generated some interest. Thank you too to those who emailed me privately on the subject - very helpful.
There is another question I have been pondering regarding the Canadian 'Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire' Coronation Seal cinderella - perhaps I will start another thread for that one! Chris
