Not sure when this was used and didn't realize there was private mailing going on while a postal strike was underway. I recall a Canada Post strike many years ago . Cancel on this even says Canada mail strike . Any idea where when this would have been used? $1.85 makes me think it wasn't to long ago but I would imagine a private company could have charged anything for delivery . Paper this is on is almost like dollar store construction paper you'd buy for the kids.

It's a nice label Nitro!
Sadly, I have never seen it before and cannot comment.

But as a Cinderella collector, I am off to investigate !

While were at it this cover made me say HMMMMM as well. Addressed to Colorado with US postage yet where does winnipeg fall into the mix. Was air mail transfered through Winnipeg and back to the US ?

Gotcha !

This is the top value of a set of 3 strike post labels issued in 1981. It was for use to the USA, but most likely needed a US stamp/s for the onward journey.
The other two depict a plane and another ship, 50c and $1.
10,000 sets issued.

The Company was aptly named, 'Canada Postal Strike Compnay' !

Your second offering is, I believe, a Private Courier Service.
I think I have one or two labels myself.

More Sherlocking to do.......I'll never get to bed at this rate !

Thanks for the info -- only 10,000 sets is great. Have to put it somewhere away from everything else as it feels like a black market underground anti Canada Post item. Although the way the economy is if there were to be another strike I could see private companies opening all over. I'm only 10 minutes from a border crossing and it would be easy to run a few hundred pcs of mail daily. Although I could also see my mailman doing nasty things to me after is was over.

The Canadian Postal Strike Label issue you show is C6 used copy valued at $6.00 was the third of a set of 3. Issued sometime after 1981. These were old in a sheet size 5X6 with a selvege, had shinny gum & line perforated. Number issued is unknown.

This one I purchased from a dealer last Thursday at the Barrie and District Stamp Club. It appears to be mint, but there is no evidence of having been gummed. I'm glad to see that this label has been discussed previously as I was aware of it before the meeting. I paid $2.00.

Is it 10,000 sets of the three values or 10,000 sets of each value?
If they were produced in 30 label panes, the number of 10,000 labels is not mathematically possible, unless it is 10,000 panes of each value (300,000 labels).

Can anyone provide scans of the 50 cent and $1.00 values.

I'm also unaware of the "W" catalogue references - which catalogue is it?]
