Any information or anecdotes would be appreciated on this German Rocket Mail, I believe from 1933. It has a catalogue number of EZ-3A2 in the Ellington-Zwisler catalogue.

I assume that they are exceedingly philatelic in nature.

Thanks!

(I see I might need to rescan.)

Apparently Germany (and the rest of the world for that matter) was bitten by the rocket bug in the early 1930's.

These stamps were issued in small quantities for various flights. There were 4 stamps issued for this flight (Nov 4, 1933) all with same design. 3A1 1Mk Yellow green, 3A1a 1Mk Green, 3A2 1Mk Black and 3A3 3Mk surcharge on 1Mk Black. They were Perf 10 1/2. A similar set (2A1-2A3) was issued Aug 31, 1933 as Perf 14. There was also a set issued Nov 6, 1933 that was imperf with the same green and black 1Mk and a 1Mk black on red paper (4A1-4A3). These were all issued for Gerhard Zucker rocket flights.

Here is a better scan...the first one looked like I ran it off on a copier.

Your new scan suddenly has a red splodge.

For some reason, rocket mail always has me in stitches,
they meant so well, but just couldn't pull it off.
The stamps show a beautifull, arcing cylinder of steel,
as it flies skyward on its journey.

Often, the reality was......

I was using a scanner at the office for the first scan, which insisted on converting to grayscale because it couldn't find any color. This scan was made on my "regular" machine. I'll have to look at that and see what it is.
