Too-ticky plays the street organ, or barrel organ while Little My dances behind her on this January 15, 1998 first class booklet stamp (Facit #1418) of Finland. Since Too-ticky is playing the organ, she is the organ grinder. From wikipedia, "A street organ is an automatic mechanical pneumatic organ designed to be mobile enough to play its music in the street. The two most commonly seen types are the smaller German and larger Dutch street organ." These musical instruments are still being made today. |

Although steel drums were invented in Trinidad and Tobago, they can be found on stamps (and in real life) throughout the Caribbean. I particularly like this set of stamps from 1974 on this souvenir sheet (AT 056). |

This set of instruments from Laos in 1970 is one of my favorite instrument sets of stamps. The design is by the Laotian artist Ky Phung Chaleun, though they were engraved in France. Stunning stamps. |

I love this set of folk instrument stamps (as opposed to classical Indian instruments) from India in 2020. Each instrument is part of a se-tenant pair that also shows a player using the instrument. Beautiful designs as well. 1) Ektara (one-string drone lute), 2) Ravanhatha (small bowed lute), 3) Burrakatha dakki (metal goblet drum), 4) Kamaicha (bowed lute), 5) Surando (waisted bowed lute), 6) Algoza (double flute) |
