Franz Liszt (1811 – 1886) was a Hungarian composer, virtuoso pianist and teacher of the Romantic period. With a diverse body of work spanning more than six decades, he is considered to be one of the most prolific and influential composers of his era and remains one of the most popular composers in modern concert piano repertoire.

During this period and into his later life, Liszt was a friend, musical promoter and benefactor to many composers of his time, including Frédéric Chopin and Hector Berlioz

Albert Charles Paul Marie Roussel (1869 – 1937) was one of the most prominent French composers of the interwar period. His early works were strongly influenced by the impressionism of Debussy and Ravel, while he later turned toward neoclassicism.

Ferenc Erkel (1810-1893) was a Hungarian composer, conductor and pianist. He was the father of Hungarian grand opera, written mainly on historical themes, which are still often performed in Hungary. He also composed the music of "Himnusz", the national anthem of Hungary, which was adopted in 1844. He died in Budapest.

Leó Weiner (1885-1960) was one of the leading Hungarian music educators of the first half of the twentieth century, and a composer. His brother gave him his first music and piano lessons. As children, he and Fritz Reiner played piano four hands. Later, he studied at the Academy of Music in Budapest, won numerous prizes, including the Franz Liszt Stipend. In 1908 he was appointed music theory teacher at the Academy of Music, professor of composition in 1912 and professor of chamber music in 1920.

Music Contest between god Apollo and Marsyas the Satyr
The satyr Marsyas challenged Apollo to a contest of music. The contest was judged by Midas. The terms of the contest stated that the winner could punish the defeated one. Marsyas lost and was flayed alive for his hubris to challenge a god.
