This Swiss ca.1993 postmark shows a telephone receiver and alerts the recipient that national weather forecasts are available by dialing 162. From wikipedia, "Short dialing codes are assigned for special services or network features...162 - weather forecast and meteorological conditions."   |

On September 5, 1980 Switzerland issued this 80 centimes stamp (Sc #690) as a part of its "Swiss PTT Services" set of 4 values. Stamp commemorates the centenary of Swiss telephone service.  |

Don't know how this December 6, 1937 cover made it from Heidelberg, Germany to the USA on 5 pf postage, but it did, apparently. The "drucksache"/printed matter rate would have required an imprint and return address to be sent for 5 pfennigs, I believe...and this cover has neither. Anyway, the cancellation reads, "telephone saves time and money."   |

On May 17, 1977 the DDR issued this 20 pf stamp (Mi #2223) to commemorate World Communications Day. Stamp depicts a transducer cabinet VKM with mechanical filters, a handheld telephone receiver and the emblem of the International Telecommunications Union (UIT of the UNO).  |

Here is Greece's May 6, 1988 60 drachma value (Sc #1621A) from the two-stamp Europa 'Transport and Communications' themed set. Stamps were printed in horizontally se-tenant fashion, in both sheet and booklet format. Shown is the booklet format stamp. A fax machine, a satellite and a telephone are depicted.  |
