Don't know which country issued a stamp, or if it's a Cinderella item or a real stamp of another kind? Post it here and get help from forum members, many of whom have been around this hobby a good many years. I've got some stuff that stumps me, and will fire up the scanner and post it here, too. Hope to get some help from members with them. Remember -- that we not only want them, but need them, goes without saying -- but like everyone else who uses the phrase I'm saying it anyway! Lurkers welcome! Just register and show us what you've got!

OK, here's my first unknown. Yes, it's from the German Democratic Republic, but beyond that, what is it? |

Well, I'll take a stab at it, Vertrauliche means private/confidential and Dienstsache means Official. I think it translates to "For Your Eyes Only" and "Top Secret". But what is that symbol in the circle? Is that a protractor, surveying tool, mason's tool, ???

Thanks Triggersmob and gussyboy1. So this might not be a stamp at all but an official seal or label for secret or confidential material.
Anyone know anymore about it? |

Quote:Someone has cut the country name off this one. I think it may be India, but I don't have a catalog at the moment to check it. Can anyone confirm that? Probably should go in the bin, but it's the only copy I have. Triggersmob, this is an Indian stamp (from the 5th Definitive Series) depicting the Himalayas--2 Rupees violet and blackish-brown. There are two dies---die I was issued on 15 July, 1975 and die II in 1977. |

Here's another unknown. These are from Indonesia but not in Scott albums or catalogs. Sometimes when Scott doesn't list a stamp it shows a picture and says stamps like the one shown don't qualify. But there is nothing on these. Does anyone know anything about them? |

Thanks, Tom. I have the Internationals through Part 8 and there are no airmails for Indonesia in them. I keep an old set of 1972 Scott Catalogs handy (from when I stopped collecting) for quick reference since I don't collect much beyond that, and they list no airs for Indonesia. When I resumed collecting in 2004 I picked up the current set on disks, and that has no "C" issues under Indonesia, either. So has Scott recently changed its mind about these or what? Are they worth anymore than the obligatory 20 cents? Thanks again. These have bugged me for years! |

Hi Modern....
Sorry, I should have noted for you that the C27 lists at $2.10 & the C55 $2.50. No value noted for any used Indonesian airmails.
Dianne....not sure about the first, can't see it well, possibly Israel ?....#2 Syria, #3 Russia semi-postal, #4 not sure, can't see it well, #5 Russia, #6 Armenia. |
