Ok Mystery Fans,

I do happen to know the answer to these 2 , but maybe it will be fun for those who haven't seen these.

========================================================

Now this group is a mystery to me. Of course, I don't remember where I got these, let alone what they were for.

Jim

Jim, I thought your second scan was a home-made album page and was waiting for the stamps to show! Going by the spelling of authorized, i.e. authorised, and the pence and shillings, they have to be some sort of British origin but where or why -- some far-off island -- it would have to be an emergency to use them.

Dianne, # 4 is Iran -- Persia if you use Scott albums.

I have 2 sheets and they are identical. I think the "DW 1 71" is a clue, but
not sure. It appears there has never been any adhesive on the backs. The
roulette perfing does go through. I am sure a story is there someplace.

Sorry Cim

Don't have a clue what those are. Someone will come along eventually.

Modern

I am going to be making up my own albums for most countries. In your opinion should I place Persia on pages of their own or include them with Iran.

Dianne, it's the same place. You can call it either one. Iran is the modern name used today.

OK, Cimarron, I'm going to take a wild, flying guess (meaning I'm making it all up). They've got the eagle and USA on the background, they are overprinted with the name of an oil company, they have sequential numbers, and they come from Oklahoma.

If I put all that into my computer

it comes up tax exempt stamps for oil purchases made by Native Americans on Oklahoma reservations!

Now does that make sense?

I have a felling this thread will become too long and diverse. Is it possible for some
"Grand Pillar" person to suggest that a new subforum like "Mystery Stamp/Philatelic Item Identification"
be put under the "General Philatelic Discussions (Non Country Specific)" Forum Listing. I
believe that the sister Coin Forum has a similar subforum. Just an idea... Seems like I have been here
a year...not even a month and already I am trying to make changes see my signature !

Objection, your honor!

Now that my objection has been registered, I have to agree that if this becomes popular, what Jim suggests would be a very sensible thing to do, keeping each unknown stamp as a separate thread within a new forum.

Not a bad looking older set, but they have to be Cinderellas. Anyone have a clue?

A guess would be the Spanish Civil war period. Las Palmas on the Canary Islands,
thus the airplane and port in the background. I have read someplace that although
the Canary Is. used Spanish stamps (over printed),during this period the 2 major
cities ( I forget the other, think it starts with a T, issued their own stamps.

The "social benefit" is a little confusing as to purpose ( mail vs. revenue). Just
a direction

That sounds Cool M_W. I found those in a bunch of covers I purchased at the ever popular local Junk Shop...LOL. I tried to find a cover of maybe some type of letters or such that might have been related to them, but was unlucky. Thanks for the Idea on them though is better then what I had come up with.

Jim, those are pretty good clues. Will help me look further.
Didn't know Las Palmas was in the Canary Islands.

Cimarron, you probably won't find any letters using those.
