Jim, my guess on the sheet is a cindy produced by a firm for use during the 1971 GB postal strike. There were a number of firms involved, could not come up with which 1. The initials DW is probably the firm's initials. |

Jim...Did some more digging and the "1-71" probably refers to Jan 1971. The strike started on Jan 20, 1971 and lasted into March 1971. No luck on the DW. That could be the initials for either the delivery service or the printer. Looked at numerous web pages and did not see them. |

Modern...They appear to be event cards. The 1st for a trade fair running from Aug 18 to Sept 7, 1947. The other 2 appear to be from stamp shows in 1947 & 1956. Have not checked stamp issue dates so I do not think they are FDC's, the middle 1 maybe as the cancel date is for a single day while the others indicate a period of several days. Will wait on Greg's answer. |

Thanks for the info, Mike. What you say about them seems valid. What makes you think the 2nd and 3rd are from stamp shows? |

Mod... Both cachets have the words briefmarken (stamps) & ausstellung (exhibition). Translation is per Babel. So, putting those 2 together gets me thinking of stamp related exhibits or shows. |

Thanks Mike, a couple more German words I'll have to remember, though I'm familiar with briefmarken. |

I think Meo is right on target. Ausstellung can also mean to issue depending on the context.
I guess I should have paid more attention to my German instructor in high school! |

Note: If anyone is wondering what happened, here, that bumped this up, the images of the postcards, above, were replaced with better scans. |

This isn't a question about a stamp, as such, but about the inscription on this old cover from Russia to Berlin. It reads, REDACTION DER ,, ST. PETERSBURGER Z??UNG. I'm thinking this could be a censored cover but would like knowledgeable opinions. |
