An Affordable Hingeless U.S. Album

I noticed a recent Mystic ad on the back page of Linn's features a hingeless U.S. album from Mystic.

According to Mystic, it covers the "classic" period 1847 - 1947 and also includes airmails.

I'm just curious if anyone has seen one and/or has an opinion about the quality.

KirkS

By the way, the price is $99 (plus $12 for shipping)

Yes, Kirks, Yes I have. over on vsc there was quite a topic going on it. I asked some questions and got some answers. Including pictures. The next opportunity to fit it in my budget, I will own a set. They looked very nice and had places for more then just the common stamps. For instance it had places for #'s 5 thru 9. 5 is very rare and 8 is very expensive.
It has very good coverage. I would say it is a good deal.

My wife new about my Schaubek quest. She also knew about our budget. She just gave me the two volume set tonite. Looks great. I will be glad to answer anyone's questions. Appears really slick and informative, as well as correct. One potential problem is the first two volumes go to 1946 including airmail, but they have not even made the next set. If they do, great --- otherwise, not so good. But first glance appears that it is a GREAT alternative.

I have a question for anyone that does have a hingeless album or has seen them. Does the stamps simply load from the top and you hope they stay in the mount???

That Mystic Stamp Co and Don Sundman, they crack me up. The smart-alecks left me a full page and spot for my one cent 1867 Franklin Z-Grill.

I have 2 sets of the Mystic Heirloom albums. One for Mint stamps and one for Used stamps. The pages are great....Very well designed and easy to use. The Scott #'s are on each page for all the U.S. stamps. There is also a brief description of the stamps. The downside to the albums are the actual binders. In my opinion they are very cheap and flimsy. But for the price you pay it is worth it. I would buy it just for the album pages alone. I use Mystic mounts to display the stamps.

$38.95 + shipping for each 3 volume set.

Any word of mystic doing a canadian version. Hingeless is on my wishlist but not at the crazy prices. Almost ready to bid on a private auction with the Davo Canadian hingeless albums just for the albums and stamps as a bonus.

I have heard good things about it. I feel that the regular Hierloom was the best for the dollar U.S. album and now it looks like they are trying for the same in the hingeless.

I am very impressed with the Mystic Hingeless. If I could have given them a suggestion, I would have included the colors of the stamps like the Scott National does, even though I am pretty clueless about shades, I still would have liked to have the color printed with the Scott number and the picture. 2 out of three is not bad though. My question still stands though. For people that have seen hingeless albums, are the stamp put in from the top and you just hope they stay in??

The colors are listed on the opposite page with the stamp explanations for some of the stamps.

I personally like the black mounts for my albums. The Heirloom hingeless album is all clear mounts. I like the way the black background gives the stamp a portrait kind of feel.

You make a good point Sharksfan, but I think every hingeless album has clear mounts -- none of them are black. Black is do-it-yourself only.

LOVELL: Does the stamps simply load from the top

Yes, those are the top-loading. The Schaubek hingeless use "Schaufix" mounts which are closed at top and bottom, but split in the back to allow you to load the stamps. The downside of top-load is that you worry the stamp will fall out -- the plus side is that sometimes a stamp seems about 1/2mm too tall to fit in the other mounts and if you force it in there, it will wrinkle.

I dunno SV:

It's only been a couple months and it seems to have vanished from their website.

It might be worth an email or phone call to see if they still have them in stock. On he other hand, it's not a positive sign, is it?

Good Job, WT.

I went page-by-page through the online catalog. I used the navigation buttons on the left, and I even used their search engine and I STILL couldn't find it ?? U-DA-MAN

SV: I'd like to hear your feedback after it arrives.
