I just got a copy of this book as a used copy from an outside seller from Amazon. I knew that the book was going to be used, but what I did not expect was it to be a withdrawn library book. I guess for the price I can eat the loss. I'm kind of dissapointed. This would have been the first book I was building my stamp collection shelf with. I'd heard so many good reviews from fellow SCF'ers about Mackay that I scoured the internet till I could find a copy. I probably would have done better with Alibris. I know it's not Amazon's fault, but geeesshhh. I was hoping for at least a softcover edition.

It's the information within that counts Donna,
a lot of my books are ex library,
without the libraries, a lot of literature on stamps
would not be avaialable to us.
I think you have started well James Mackay, he had
a fantastic overview of the stamp collecting world.
It will be good reading.

PS: I am curious as to "outside seller" of Amazon,
generally speaking Amazon describes books like
"ex library" or "damaged cover" etc ?

Hi Donna

I too am a great fan for building a philatelic reference library and I have about 3 or 4 books that were library discards. I was pleased to get mine for as little as 50 cents because of this. Sometimes the library have some pleasant finds because some of the discarded books can turn out to be real nice sleepers because they have been long out of print. They are collectors items by their own rights <G>

My opinion of course.
