Jeff, unfortunately I will not be able to pass judgement on the genuineness of the 2 Armenia overprints shown in the enlarged scans. I do not trust them (particularly the one on the 25k stamp), but they are beyond my expertization capabilities in this field.

I tried to compare them with examples in my collection of unframed monograms (genuine and forged sold separately), but to no avail.

According to the real experts (Ceresa, Tsilighirian), the unframed "Z" issue consititutes "the most difficult chapter of Armenian philately". In my genuine collection of this issue I have included ONLY signed (by Ceresa) stamps, stamps from very reliable sources and stamps with genuine cancellations.

I have a rather large collection (probably of forgeries)
and tried to get going a few years ago,
and frankly gave up.
It is a very difficult discipline indeed.

If anyone (no pressure, vasia ) has scans of a few of these with genuine cancellations that they would have a minute to post, I'd love to see them.

Don't go to any special effort...only if the scans are just sitting around...

Thanks.

(This thread has me waffling between feeling inspired to dig out some Armenia and dive in, or feeling like leaving them right where they are for another x years.)

Cjd, I know exactly the feeling about these Armenian overprints. If you decide to dig-in, be prepared to spend long hours with a lot of frustration.

I will try to present some overprints from my collection in the days to come. It is not an easy task, given that there is a variety of different GENUINE overprints in each category (see, for example, for the unframed overprints the illustrations from Michel catalogue shown by rod).

Below are a few scans of GENUINE overprints from my archive (not necessarily from my collection):
