Mauritius - Unusual George VI Profile

That should be George VI unless I am mistaken, but that is an new profile picture of him that I have not seen. Can anyone fill me in on the name of this shot.

Yes jhlovell that is George VI. The scanned stamp is Scott 211 (20 cents used). I believe that was issued in 1938 but can't find any other details about the issue.

The design was a holdover from the George V Key plate types. Only a few of the colonies still used them into the George VI era. The Leeward Islands was another. Bermuda used the large, high value key plate, with the similar head, although not the low value key plate.

The right-facing portrait of KGVI was based on a photograph by Bertram Park. The same portrait was used by Harrison, Waterlow and De la Rue.

I guess it has to do with color and size. I recognize immediately the Aden picture but not the other two. Thanks everyone for the lesson. Another class attended and money well spent on SCF.
