According to my list, that is from the Swansea post office. I collected this list back before I routinely saved the source together with the list, so I can't say where I got it. Maybe you can use it as a starting point for searching. |

Not sure whether this thread is still active but stumbled across it whilst researching. GB triangular postmarks were generally used on printed matter. I have tried to find a comprehensive list of those used but I cannot find one. The Whitney 'Collect British Postmarks' acknowledges their existence but gives no details of the codes used. From various sources I have created the following list but it is by no means complete and I cannot guarantee it is 100% accurate either. Any additions/corrections are welcome.

Hi Scotzm, those links were the original basis of my list but they contain a lot of railway codes, etc that were not used by Post Offices so won't appear on postmarks. I'm trying to build a list of those codes that will appear on stamps. There are other numeric ones that I haven't started on yet! |

I have had one that has baffled me for a while, appears to be WAP, found on a KGV halfpenny green Jubilee. No sign of that one in the lists I have seen. I had thought maybe Wapping, London? DavidR |

Hi David, Wapping is possible but not all the codes are that logical or resemble the Post Office name, IM for Altrincham for example. I'll note that it exists any chance of posting a scan? |

Kobo Bit late but managed to get a photo in. First letter is not very clear but pretty sure it is a 'W'. DavidR |

David, You probably lost interest a long time ago but WAP is Wallingford, originally in Berkshire but now in Oxfordshire. I finally tracked down a full Post Office Telegraph Code listing. |

Hi Kobo Thanks for the answer to my WAP query! Sorry it has taken so long to get back, never lost interest just that I had missed your post. I have only just read your answer when searching on a triangular '449' postmark. Cheers. DavidR |
