Warning: These stamps are usually not soakable. That is, Do Not soak these in water to remove them from the envelope paper. Some will disintegrate when soaked.

Stamps dispensed by Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) in similar designs but with variable rates printed on them by the machine, depending on how much you ask for or need.

Some are plain but some are rather colourful.

This was given to me by a neighbour (Made me feel like a little boy starting out collecting, but excited too!) is from Ireland for 2010 with a Religious Christmas theme, denomination in Euro €0.82 . Kind of looks like a stained glass window?

Frama is a Swiss Company and their ATM labels were first used in Switzerland in the mid-seventies.
Trialled in Great Britain in 1984-85 but not successful.

The machines print both the design and value onto plain paper at the same time. In the UK, they became known as Framas.

I will try to find some Swiss examples. I have some somewhere.

Both of the examples above are on gummed paper and can be soaked with care.

The Israel example below is on Self-Adhesive pre-printed stickers.
Known here as Maor Labels.

Interesting thread.

It is also interesting to note that some publications have stated that these ATM labels and Framas are not as popular as they were expected to be. This is still questionable.

For myself personally, while I do not collect them per se, believe that there is more poularity in this facet of philately than a lot of us realize. I can understand the plain framas being dull and lack-luster but can well understand why some are very collectible. I have seen some from Spain in particular and noticed that there are some very nice images & designs. I can also well understand how these fancier framas and ATMs can be quite popular in the future. Time will tell I am sure.

I think that possibly some who are interested in these stamps (and I am one) are saying this so the prices stay low. But they are not. On Delcampe and eBay they are selling for $1 each to #26.00 each (old 1985 Australia kabgaroo ATMs)

To take off what is needed is to have them in the regular catalogues and also printed in the albums. That makes it easy.

Spain 2000 Tenerife Congress

1er. Congreso Internacional de Prevención de Riesgos Laborales. Tenerife ( Islas Canarias ) - ESPA'A /
1st. International Congress Occupational Risk Prevention
February 2000
Info from: http://www.ateeme.net/angles/at32riesgo.htm

This is a map of the Canary Islands.

Notice the half moon sliced into the stamp. A security measure to prevent soaking of the stamp and reuse most likely. Although I had thought these were printed on thermal paper and soaking them was a no-no. I will have to investigate further.
