On February 21, 1985 Berlin issued this 50 (pf) stamp (Mi #730) to commemorate the 200th birthday of writer Bettina von Arnim (1785-1859). The image for the stamp is a recess-printed replication of Emil Ludwig Grimm's (1790-1863) etching of von Arnim holding a book. Grimm's precise drawing technique clearly shows the raised bands (cord-bound spine) of the leather bound book. |

Here is the higher value 2 kr stamp (Facit #535) from Sweden's March 21, 1962 two-stamp set of identically designed coil stamps commemorating the centenary of the country's system of municipal laws. A booklet version of the lower value 30 ore stamp was also issued. Stamp depicts a thick code/book of laws flanked by a "gathering-peat" and chairman's gavel. My brief research did not turn up any information for the significance of the gathering-peat tool to Swedish municipal law. |
