On April 2, 1959 the DDR issued this set of two stamps (Mi #s 680-1) to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the country's sanctioning of "Jugendweihe" for young people.

From wikipedia, "Jugendweihe (Youth consecration) is a secular coming of age ceremony practiced by German 14-year-olds. It originated among the secular societies in the 19th century as an alternative to Confirmation by the Roman Catholic and Protestant churches. It was especially widespread in East Germany, where state atheism was encouraged under the GDR."

On May 8, 1980 the Federal Republic of Germany issued this 50 pf stamp (Mi #1051) to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the Augustana, or Augsburg Confession.

From bookofconcord.org, "(The Augsburg Confession) is the Confession of Faith which was submitted to Charles V (Holy Roman Emperor) at the Diet of Augsburg in the year 1530 by certain princes and cities."

In effect, the Augsburg Confession led to the granting of legal status, eight years later, for Lutheranism in the Holy Roman Empire.
