Not sure but that looks like an Egyptian eagle.
Pardon my ignorance, it knows no bounds, but is that Hebrew on the upper stamp? It's not a very clear scan.

I think you may be right with Egypt...I'll try and get a better picture of the first one...I'm not sure if its hebrew..thats why its on here now! Lets see if we'll find out :)

The top "stamp" is actually the tab from an Israeli stamp honoring Rabbi Alkalai. Those are the years he lived. I'll see if I can pilfer a pic showing the stamp with the tab.

Now pardon MY ignorance, but are the dates backwards because they read right to left? Or am I way off here? Thanks again for the info!

The bottom stamp is Syrian. Probably a revenue.

The quick way to distinguish is the stars in the middle. In the Egypian coat of arms, when the stars are included (and they are not always there), there will be 2 stars. Syrian coat of arms will have either 2 stars or 3 stars. Since you stamp shows 3 stars, it must be Syrian.

For the rest of us, yes Ash, Hebrew reads from right to left.
