Arturo Toscanini (1867 – 1957) was an Italian conductor. He was one of the most acclaimed musicians in the late 19th to 20th Century.
He conducted the first concert of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in 1936.

No pictures, however, I was at a stamp show in Cleveland around 1970 and saw a couple frames with the 1903 series of stamps. Each denomination had a used, mint, cover, AND AN AUTOGRAHPH of each figure pictured...even the 8 cent Martha Washington. I'm still fully impressed 48 years later.

He was arrested in 1926 by the Fascist government.
The stamp shows the first page of the first of a series of more than thirty notebooks in which he wrote his thoughts.
He remained in prison for more than 11 years and died as a result of the deterioration of his health whilst incarcerated.
