I have the opportunity to purchase a collection of classic Canadian stamps, pretty much everything except for the huge ($1500+) values. This includes the full set of used jubilees, Scott's 5, 7, 8, etc etc. However, many stamps are damaged to some degree. For the imperfs, they are often cut poorly. For the perf stamps, several perfs are often missing, nicked, or the stamps have some rough creases. I'm debating whether it is worth purchasing given that it is still quite an expensive purchase.
However, many of these stamps I will only be able to obtain from a dealer and may never come across again privately and do not have the funds to purchase at dealer prices. I have been watching
ebay and large nice collections often go for the $1000-3000 range but I am hesitant to buy something like this online.
One other question, the very very early issues (around Scott 5, 7, 8, etc) I have really never seen up close in person until I saw this collection. They almost look fake, as if they were just printed off of a computer onto normal paper. Is this a normal look for these issues? I am only familiar with stamps starting around the large queen issue.
Thanks!
