I love the original air mail stamps that carried overprints - either words, numbers or pictures. Here is one of my favorite pairs from Iceland - let's see some others!

I really do have a liking to air mail overprints Scouter. My Aussie collection is slowly growing.
Really nice overprints thanks for sharing. It is not every day that you see an example of these overprints on anything. KGV |

Nice stamp cjd, and a great scan. I wish we could put an online catalog together, with all of us here and the varieties, plate varieties, scratch varieties, color varieties that we all have, we would be the envy capito of the world with our database. Something to think about? |

Nice overprints everyone especially with the airplanes. I collect stamps of airplanes but didn't think of seeking air mail stamps with overprints. Now I will focus my attention on acquiring some of them as well. |

Just to be correct, all of the stamps shown so far [if I am not mistaken and without checking], with the exception of the Egypt pair are air mail stamps BECAUSE of the overprint.
Just a little confusing when one reads quickly. The heading on Scouters page says it all !

A collector friend of mine gave me a copy of Sanabria's Air Post Catalogue (1950 edition) awhile back. I've been wanting to go through it and so I've used this thread as an excuse to search for airmail stamps with flight related pictorial overprints. For the ones before 1940 I did a quick and dirty lookup of Scott catalog numbers (Sanabria used their own numbering system) but I didn't search for any of the later ones. And, you'll see that I didn't look too hard for the pre-1940 ones if they weren't obvious :)
Most of the "flight related" images in overprints are airplanes but others include zeppelins, birds, wings, and my favorite, a bomb (see China). This isn't to imply that there aren't a lot of interesting overprints without flight related pictorials. For example, overprints with text containing "Spitfire" (Cameroons), "Ameilia Earhart" (Mexico) and a number of "Zeppelins," not to mention wonders like "FIRST TRANS-ATLANTIC AIR POST April, 1919" (Newfoundland).

Please note that I don't collect airmails beyond what is depicted in my Scott Blue Volume 1, but I thought some of you might find this interesting.
