I am showing this as a Scott O44 in Germany 1923 and used, with a period postmark of 1924. I do not see any note with these about CTO and the value is up there, so I would like someone to help me verify or apply the RIGHT catalog number. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Jeff

It does appear to be a Scott O44, Michel 86.

Because of the dramatically higher value of used copies (180 EUR versus 5/13 EUR in Michel), fake cancels are obviously a problem with these issues. Michel goes so far as to specify that it's used prices apply only to expertized copies. If it's in your possession, you might consider sending it in for a cert.

BPP lists the following as certified expertizers for this issue:
Fleiner
Meyer
Oeschner
Tworek
Weinbuch
Winkler

Again many thanks PostmasterGS. You must have some specialty in Germany to have all these resources at your disposal. Thank you for making them available to the rest of the SCF family. (SCF is the best!)

Thank you for that information, Postmaster.

If I haven't said it before, I'll say it now. You need to post to this forum more often!

Scott number is correct but I believe postal validity ended Dec 31, 1923 per Michel, so my guess is a later favor cancel.

Yes, the problem with this cancel is the date - 1924. The high inflation isues disappeared from use very quickly during December 1923 and were only valid to the end of the year.
