Tall Ships On Stamps

This November 21, 1970 six cent stamp (Sc #1420) of the USA commemorates the 350th anniversary of the landing of 120 British colonists aboard the merchant ship Mayflower at Plymouth, Massachusetts.

From history.com, "Nearly 40 of these passengers were Protestant Separatists - they called themselves 'Saints' - who hoped to establish a new church in the new world. Today, we often refer to the colonists who crossed the Atlantic on the Mayflower as Pilgrims."

Most of Sweden's "tall ships" stamps through the 1980's have been shown on page 1 of this thread, but I believe this one was omitted. This 1967 10 ore Swedish definitive (Facit #613) depicts a detail from a 1650 engraving of a ship in Oresund by W. Hartman.

On July 2, 1997 Estonia issued this 5.50 kroon stamp as a part of its three-stamp set of "Modern Estonian Ships". Stamp depicts the four-masted barkentine Tormilind. The Tormilind was most likely sunk in the Kiel Canal (Germany) in August 1944.

Here is Oman's July 4, 1986 50 baisa stamp (Sc #289) commemorating the 1840 voyage of the Omani barque Sultanah to the USA.

From wikipedia, "Ahmad bin Na'aman al Kaabi was the first Arab emissary to visit the United States. He was sent by the Sultan of Oman, Sayyid Said bin Sultan, and sailed in 1840 from Zanzibar in a newly built ship called Sultanah to New York for trade between the two countries."

On December 17, 1963 Mozambique issued a 20-stamp, pictorial set featuring Historical Portuguese Sailing Ships. The stamps' face values range from 10 centavos to 30 escudos, with the oldest vessel (1430 A.D.) being the 10c stamp, and the latest ship (1924) being the 30 escudos stamp.

Here are the 3 high values of this set. The 15 escudos value (Sc #452) depicts Vasco da Gama (1841) a ship of the line, and the 20 esc. value shows the frigate Dom Fernando II e Gloria. The training vessel Sagres (1924) is pictured on the 30 esc. value (1924).
