I'm currently sorting through my Austrian stamps looking properly at the cancels for the first time. This one struck me as a bit odd - it's an 1867 Austrian PO in the Levant issue. However, the cancel does not look like something that would have been used in the 19th century. Indeed, judging by the star, I'm wondering if it's an early Soviet cancel. Has anyone seen this cancel before or can explain its presence on this stamp?
