"Anyone know how many overprints were used on the 'Truck' souvenir sheet?"
Jamesw, there were four overprints that I'm aware of. The two I posted above; a third overprinted in black: "Annual Banquet (at top) / San Antonio Philatelic Association / April 12, 1940" and a fourth, overprinted in red: "Kent and Ravenna Third Annual Philatelic Open House, K of C Hall - Kent, Ohio, November 9, 10, 1940". The last two are the most elusive; I've never seen examples in hand. |

German inflation issues of the Twenties are still very cheap nowadays but in 1929 they were probably cheaper than white paper. So the publishers of "Il corriere filatelico", the major Italian philatelic journal of the time, celebrated the Turin 1929 National Philatelic Exhibition, overprinting blocks of German stamps: certainly very philatelic! As I have written when showing the Verona 80 sheetlet, the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato is very often present with a booth at the major philatelic exhibitions. For their attendance to the 1981 WIPA in Wien, they prepared a brochure containing two poster stamps, printed in multicolor recess from an engraving by Eros Donnini, showing the Shönbrunn castle. The front and back covers of the brochure The two stamps affixed to an internal page of the brochure A closer view of the stamps Michele |

The Exposio De Guerra Barcelona 1916?
Never heard of that one and, annoying enough, it did not google easily ... but I love the sketches.
Cheers,

By 1916, Barcelona was the neutral big city (1 mio people) nearest to the war-thorn Europe (150 km South of the French border). Easy life, vice and money flowing to wealthy hands! The culture was, also, thriving. For this "war stamps exhibition" cinderellas, at least 10 different colours were used. At present I don't know where this exhibition was housed. But, we're working on a catalogation of Catalan cinderellas, and we'll find out this. |

Bilbao (Basque Country), June/July, 1978. National Philatelic Exhibition. The cinderella is a reproduction of a 1937 Basque airletter, and shows the "Ikurriña" or Basque flag. (Dedicated to LB) |

Cursus, The Opera House block and the War Stamps Exhibition sheets were amazing. Loved them ! Quote: But, we're working on a catalogation of Catalan cinderellas, and we'll find out this. Are you planning a catalogue ? That is amazing news if so. I want a signed copy ! But now you are teasing me ? That last sheet showing the Basque flag is just out of this world ! Never seen it before either,I must be living a sheltered life ! I want them all. Don't leave your home, I am on the way to Catalonia ! Londonbus1.....loved the dedication. |

No Michael, I'm not teasing you.Together with a friend We're working very hard on a PDF catalogation of "Catalan Commemorative cinderellas". We're excluding the Civil War and early XX century political ones that have already been cataloged by a number of autors. We're dealing with sports, cultural events, fairs, stamp exhibitions, etc. and it will have high quality images. Unfortunately, against my view and wish, there'll be text just in Spanish (not Catalan/Spanish/English). This is because the English level of Spanish and Catalan people is very low and, as it is mainly aimed to Spanish people (again, against my view!) and there's a high level of catalanophobia among Spanish people, Catalan can't be used either. But my idea, is to prepare later a Catalan/English version. On the Barcelona and Catalania thread I'm just showing cinderellas from my collection (plus some colaboration). But if you want to see more Catalan cinderellas you can go to the Spanish speaking fòrum http://www.agoradefilatelia.org and on the "catalogaciones" chapter you go to "Vinetas commemorativas de Cataluna". There you can see more Catalan cinderellas from non-English speaking collectors, better than mine. Anyway, you won't find the "politicaly sensitive" ones (that is, dealing with Catalonia independence issue)that I freely post on our thread on SCF, as the level of catalanophobia among Spanish people is high at it could lead to problems for me if I show them... |
