How many have genuine "postally used" mini-sheets in their collections?
The first one I got was on a rather large envelope from a Solicitor in Fiji

I had one right beside me when you posted that... it's registered cover from the USA to NZ from back in 1998 and it has "mars pathfinder" sheet on a large envelope with other stamps.
I am sure I will have a few more as I keep all my incoming covers... have boxes of the bloody things!
Is that something you might collect??

I have about 30 a lot from collectors from Sweden and Croatia with which I have traded. I leave them on cover if possible usually on cardboard around A4 size.

Rod222, a quick question. A Mini Sheet soaked/removed off a first day cover, can that be considered 'Postally used'? |

Now there's a question finches. :) I cannot answer that one, over to the SCF panel..................... Have to add, with a singleton, normal stamp that evidences a FDC cancellation (Aust esp) I dislike them quite a bit, consider them vandalised and prefer a genuine cancel, even if it is a poorer stamp. Brickbats to those who soak FDC's |

hey finches - I dont think so - postally used is when something is used and sent through the postal system in the ordinary course of things - having said that sometimes "First Day Covers" are used for normal postal purposes |

In the olden days when the FDC was actually cancelled on the first day of issue and then put in the mailstream to be delivered to the addressee, would that be postally used? Personally, I think so. |

Very nice Stampgal On another forum years ago we discussed the "twisted rope" design of the CDS. I am not sure if we came to a conclusion of how that appeared, or for what reason. |

Only God can answer this question. "My argument(read as opinion) is" a stamp affixed on a FDC is no different than a mint stamp affixed on any cover. its made of the same paper material same color and same issuing authority as the mint stamp. yet people out there treat FDC stamps as a stepchild. sad. |

Red headed stepchild at that ! I totally get that FDC's are more or less over produced but they have gone down so far in value that I can see soaking the stamps being more worthwhile . Not that I would ever do that for fear of the brickbat but its definatly a buyers market if only on speculation of them rising at some point. As for the question I feel them also CTO not postally used excluding the older ones that were addressed and sent through the system. But then again I can argue with myself on the whole issue so I'm no help. |
