I know recently there was a discussion on manuscript and fancy pictorial hand drawn "cancellations" and there are a few great examples on the 2nd or 3rd page on some revenue stamps I thought essayk would like them.

They caught my eye as I worked through the thread.

If it isn't official yet, I think "doodle" is a great name for that kind of marking, whether officially as a cancellation (doodle cancel), or as some kind of after-the-fact addition (doodle).

I like to imagine that they were at least as much fun to produce as they are to look at.

"Doodle cancels" is how I've always referred to them...

Currently, this is one of my favorites as I've always sought out broken hats and this is my first unused copy. Came in a collection I picked up a couple months ago. Love the selvage still attached too and the trimming of the above stamp at the top (no I didn't do it :)

Nice Broken hat! Has some blind perfs as well as selvage markings. Great looking piece!

That's really nice IBFS - what's the story behind the perf 10 at top or bottom?

As far as I can recall, one of the rotary perf 11 wheels broke and was replaced with a perf 10 wheel, creating the rarities. Someone may correct me on this. Only about 22 are known to exist but I'm sure there are many more. New ones are always turning up occasionally at auctions.

This is an ongoing event that I'm trying to keep everyone up to date on. My 554d is now with Seigel Auctions but hasn't sold yet. Why, is a long story. But if you want to know the background of my 455d saga, here's a link thru it all.

Mine has some severe faults, so I don't expect to get much for it. But I hope I get enough to pay for the appraisal. The "latest" expected time it will go into an auction will be November/December. I hope it gets around to being sold before it isn't rare anymore .
