My own opinion is that it is proof faked to be a #59
Left side looks to be a re-perforated or all sides re-perforated
to make it look like a #59
Could be a tear at top right corner nicely stitched together.
Gum looks original and does not appears to be a proof on india.
Faked #59 or not still beautiful item to add to my collection and probably
worth a lot more than I paid.
Will send it for cert to find out.

The paper of the premieres gravures is very thin hard and extremely brittle. The stamps are easily cracked unless handled very carefully. The paper is also quite transparent and much of the designs may be seen from the backs of the stamps.

The gum is very dark brown sometimes staining the paper.

The colors are very dark and rich and the ink heavily applied occasionally giving a blurred appearance though as a rule the impressions are very fine and clear.

Speaking about perforations on a stamp displayed in http://www.theswedishtiger.com/59-scotts.html

seems that perforations from sides does not line up with top and bottom ones.

The gauge of the perforations will line up. On your example, the spacing between the holes varies. On the two in the last picture, the spacing between the holes left-to-right and top-to-bottom is the same, as shown here.

Received a stamp few days ago and its turned out to be a faked 69-E6e, re-backed, fake perfs, probably proff on india 69-E6d, with low quality faking done. Got re-found from seller and I am keeping stamp as souvenir. Still desirable stamp to have it.

The blue beauty that got me started in this hobby. And my "Franklin Fashion Don't" stamp. What a shame someone felt the need to cancel that stamp a second time. Oh well. It's my only U.S. #1. For some reason it was in an auction box lot with a bunch of old farmer almanacs. I paid $17.50 for the lot. There was one other stamp in the box. It was the green Franklin A155 that I payed no mind to. It's somewhere in my accumulation. Can't help but wonder if it was a coil waste lol...


The 1 franc was in that initial album (see my new member greetings post)with the 63 above. I think there was a bit of debris under the stamp when it was canceled causing that little pin hole at the fr.

This is the "Showpiece" of my US Fancy Cancellation collection. A certified Scott #65 with a full strike of the Waterbury CT "Man Wearing Derby" (Skinner-Eno PH-F20/Rohloff E7).
