Barcelona & Catalonia Cinderellas

Thank you very much for your comments. I truly appreciate them. as for the stamps that you're showing, they're not cinderella but actual postage stamps issued by Barcelona's city council as a tax to help to pay for the International Fair held in our city btween May and December 1929. Its use was compulsory, alongside Spanish stamps, on any domestic mail (or telegram) sent from Barcelona's district. No domestic letter or telegram could circulate without Barcelona's stamps.
As you've told, they're listed on Edifil, as you can see:




The three first stamps, are # 1-3, from the first 1929 series ("Exposición Internacional Barcelona 1929"), and the fourth one is #4, of the 1930 series, when the international exhibition became national, known as "Exposición de Barcelona, 1930"

Cinderellas of the 1967 and 1969 Barcelona F1 Grand Prix, ran on the urban circuit of Montjuïc. Won respectively by Jim Clark (Lotus) and Jackie Stewart (Matra).








The first one is very simple:just the flag and some cars, but on the background of the other one you can see the Palau Nacional (which houses the National Catalan Art Museum) and the Magic Fountain built by Carles Buigas for the 1929 International Exhibition.

1937 (Spanish Civil War) cinderella, of the "Socors Roig de Catalunya" (Catalonia Red Help). A very small (17 x 24 mm) item.

1937 Ajut Infatil de Reraguardia (Rearguard Children Help). Issued by the Worker's General Union and Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia.

These Spanish Civil War children's cinderellas are special appealing to me, as my own parents (as well as some uncles and aunts) were small children, living in Barcelona by then.

Mat 20th, 1923: 3rd Catalonia's Aurocycles (car with motobike engine) race, near Tarragona (100 km south of Barcelona).

As the London 2012 Olympics approach, so does the 20 th anniversary of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. To celebrate this, I'll show all the cinderella that I've related to this event.

Although they're very different from the labels shown so far, they nevertheless, represent the aesthetics of a magic moment for our city: the games of the 25 th Olympiad.

I'll start with the series of 28 cinderellas issued, showing the mascot, "Cobi" playing all sports of the Barcelona Games. Cobi, was designed in 1986 by Xavier Mariscal (València, 1950), and he said that it was his (very personal)interpretation of a Catalan sheep dog. The logo of the 1992 Olympics was a 1986 work of Josep Maria Trias (Barcelona, 1948) inspired on Joan Miró's colours (red, yellow and blue), so present in Barcelona.

Each cinderella has the name of the sport in Catalan and Spanish. I'm aware that Rod, already showed the first two, but I'm showing them again, so that you can see all together.

As today is Saint George's Day, patron of Catalonia (as well as of many countries and cities around the world), I'll show some Saint George's ("Sant Jordi", in Catalan) cinderellas, issued on the 1990 decade by the associations "Amics de Sant Jordi" (Saint George's Friends).







Aside of being our country's patron. In Catalonia, today, we celebrate the Day of Love and Culture. It's our Lover's Day: every girl/woman is offered a rose by her boyfriend or husband (or father, if she's too young for having either), while every men gets a book from his beloved one. Although, today, some girls like also being offered books.

For us, actually, the girl is Catalonia itself that gets freeded from the evil (Spanish domination) by Saint George.

This is a normal working day, but our cities and towns are full of roses and books stalls. We finish working earlier, and fill the streets to buy roses and books. The spring day is full of rose's scent, books and Catalan flags. It's somewhat magic, making it my favourite day of the year.

Just arrived today: the full set 1937 Ajut Infatil de Reraguardia (Rearguard Children Help). Issued by the Catalan Government in 20 units booklets.

Being today May 1st, "Work's Day", I'm showing two 1937 union cinderellas, issued by the "Confederación Nacional del Trabajo", CNT (Work`s National Confederation) an anarchist union, born in Barcelona in 1910, and that was majoritary amongst Catalonia's workers up to 1939. "FAI" stands for "Federación Anarquista Ibérica" (Iberic Anarchist Federation) and AIT for "Asociación Internacional de Trabajadores" (International Workers' Association).
The reason for the names and cinderellas being written in Spanish instead of Catalan is that most affiliated workers were immigrants fron south-eastern Spain.

The first cinderella, remembers the Union's leader Buenaventura Durruti, killed on the Madrid front in November 20th 1936. The text says: "November 20th 1936. Do you remember that date, comrade?"

The second one stresses the union's role on war hospitals, while asking for a 10 cents (of pesseta) contribution.
