Hello, Bought few local stamps and covers, from the Spanish civil war, and took aside the ones from what I believe is the Catalonia region. Don't know if this is the right post to add them, but pretty close ;) I think it's time I buy a specialized catalogue , since I know nothing about them. |

Yes, they're Catalan cinderellas from the 1936/39 war period, except for the last two that are from Maó ("Mahon" in Spanish), a town on the Catalan-speaking Balearic isle of Menorca.
Catalonia might not be an independent country, yet. But it's a nation on its own, not a region, and it has been that for more than one thousand years. |

I happened across this thread yesterday and it totally captured my attention. I knew little to nothing about Catalonia and about the same for Cinderellas. I've now made my way through all 43 pages and I thank you, Cursus, for an entertaining, enlightening, and informative read. You've done a fantastic job! |

Thank you very much, Abohart, for your nice words. I try to upload whatever Catalan cinderellas I manage to obtain. So, the rithm of new additions to the thread depends on my luck at finding them at an afordable price. I'm glad that you find interesting this thread that I started nearly 6 years ago, encouraged by some good friends at SCF. I truly appreciate your interest!
We've reached more that 93.000 readings...Not so that bad for some cinderellas coming from a small (7.5 mio people, 32.000 sqkm) country on a European corner...Catalonia (Catalunya, for us) |

"Anís" is a strong sweet liquor, aromatized with Mediterranean herbs, alike the Greek "ouzo" (from which it might come). Not as popular nowadays as it used to be some years ago The best known brand in Catalonia was "Anís del Mono". In 1898 the artist Ramon Casas (Barcelona,1866-1932)won a prize with his poster "La Mona I el Mono" (the beauty and the ape). In 1959, the company issued this cinderella. |
