I have 2 cent Washington bicentenial with what looks like a Chicago precancel, but I suspect it is a post cancel. Measurements are:

!. Letters are 3 1/2-4 mm
2. Height of city/st is 10 mm
3. Length of Chicago is 13 mm
4. Length of Illinois is 13 mm
5. Distance between lines is 13 mm

Can anyone help?

Can you post a scan of the stamp? That would help tell for sure. As you may or may not know, Chicago was one of the most prolific users of precanceled stamps and there are more than 75 varieties known for that city.

Scan needs to be in .jpg format (under 90K file size). You then hit "Reply to Topic" and select "Upload Image" and select the .jpg file you have that contains the scan.

I still can not upload the scan. I have carefully followed the directions, repeatedly, for resizing and uploading. When I get to this point I do not get the window for uploading. Pop Up blocker is off and I have looked under everything that I can look under.

What am I doing wrong or not doing?

This 2cent bicentennial is listed on 9 similar precancel devices, all common. This is not a post cancel. I suspect it is L8-HS, the distance between the lines more likely measures 14 mm. Congratulations getting a scan posted here, it took me about a week to figure it out.

Thanks, Chasa. I have 5 of the L-8 HS types, including the 2 cent. It isn't an L-8 HS. I rechecked the measurements and found I had the height of the city/st. wrong it measures 8 1/2-9 mm.
