After soaking some recent Austrian stamps and sorting them I noticed there are 2 types of the 2006 Michael Schumacher stamp.
What brought it to my attention at all was the fact that one had inscriptions on the bottom (designer and date) and the other none.

The 2009 Scott does list two types, # 2076 issued December 4, 2006 and # 2103A issued May 29, 2007

There is no mention about the inscription but Scott states that
No 2076 is inscribed Weltmeister 1994 1995
Scott 2103 is inscribed "Weltmeister 1995 1996 " and
has a thicker signature and greyer hair.

Designer and date added to later version.

Michael appears to have aged in a matter of 5 months

Strange that the Redrawn type has the wrong date since Schumacher was the Formula One driving champion
in 1994 1995 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 but not in 1996. You'd think it would be the other way around correcting
the wrong date.

Scott indicates that both were printed via photogravure but from what I can see the original was offset and the redrawn appears to be photogravure.

Amazing how much fun one can have with a couple of inexpensive modern stamps.

NB: Replaced missing images.

Of course. If he his older he is also a bit slower (age effect)
nobody noticed that not only the signature is thicker but in the second stamp also the pit crew is pictured in the background (perhaps during a tyre change??)

And from your scans, the background to the autograph shows a pit scene in one stamp but his suit in the other. The years are printed in a different shade and the tarmac has become a less-pronounced shade of black.

The other day I found some more information regarding
the Austrian Michael Schumacher stamps on this German stamp forum.

www.bund-forum.de
https://forum.bund-forum.de/viewtop...=747&t=23894

Austria Post had scheduled to issue a Schumacher stamp
on November 3, 2006.
One million were printed by the Austrian State Printer
via photogravure.
Here is a clip from the Briefmarke stamp magazine
announcing the new issue.

But before they were issued it was found that the 1996 title
was wrong so the stamps were withdrawn but not destroyed.

Austria Post then got the Dutch printer Royal Joh. Enschede
to do a rush job and print 700,000 with the correct dates and changes
in the design.
These were issued on December 4, 2006 and
were printed offset/litho

Below a clip from Michel catalog.

For some reason ( money?) on May 29, 2007 Austria Post decided to issue a certain quantity of the stamps
that were withdrawn on November 3, 2006.
These were sold singly in sales packs together with one of the previously issued for the price of 2 Euro.

Is there any source which states how many of the folders were produced ? Must have been quite a quantity otherwise they would rate higher in the catalogues. And that also means that quite a quantity of the correct stamp (out of the 700.000 copies) must have been used for the folder

That's a good point.

The original announcement for the withdrawn stamp stated that the quantity was 1 million.

Austria Netto Katalog states that the Auflage was 700,000

The folder itself states that both stamps have been printed with 700.000 copies each. But this cannot mean, of course, that the same number of folders were produced since the corrected stamp was issued on 12/4/2006 and sold while the folder was issued on 5/29/2007. So certainly with months on sale out of the 700.000 corrected stamps not all of them were available for the folder.

One option is that one million were produced as stated above and only 700.000 were issued on 4/12/2006 and the rest of 300.000 were used for the folder months later, which would mean 300.000 folders were produced, which also means 300.000 of the error stamps were available for sale through the folder out of the 700.000 error stamps originally printed.

But this is a bit shaky since that means the error stamp was produced originally with 700.000 copies (according to the information in the folder) while the corrected stamp with 1.000.000 copies was printed already knowing at that point, that 300.000 would be used for the folder. And the folder mentions that for issuing the error stamp the Austrian Post had to get the consent of Michael Schumacher (which they did) for issuing the error stamp. But I doubt that they had already gotten the consent on 4/12/2006, knowing that they would do the folder issue 5 months later.

See attached. One of the folder's pages explains why there are two stamps existing. It is the third image here.

It sells for about 3€, so it is abundantly available on the market. Still wondering how much of those folders have been issued...
