Temperance: for the motherland and for the race
Now that's a dramatic slogan!

Temperance....Intemperance

Austria 1914

No idea how I came by this, had 1834 but surely not.
Intemperance postcard

Can anyone confirm, the early European society
"Blue Cross" was in aid of alchoholics?
Google was of no assistance.

Rod
You woudn't find it in English.

Quote:
La fédération internationale des sociétés de la Croix-Bleue (IFBC) est une organisation internationale basée à Berne en Suisse dont le but est de venir en aide aux personnes dépendantes, notamment de l'alcool.

Here's your confirmation. It says the goal of the organisation is to help people with a dependency problem like with alcohol.

Bravo! Timbres667. Thanks.
I must have found the answer, I just didn't recall it
I do recall searching for a few weeks on another
newsgroup years ago, and the frustration that went with it.

I regurgitated this from my database.
------------------------

The Blue Cross is a Temperence organization. Its current mandate
has been widened from just anti-alchol to anti-drug activities as well.

They have also started a number of treatment centres. They ane NOT
part of the Red Cross, but do collaborate with it as required.

It was founded 21 sept 1877 in Geneva , Switzerland by Louis-Lucien
ROCHAT.

On 23 june 1883, the first section (chapter) in France was started
by Pierre BARBIER, a former alcoholic since 1874, and Lucie
PEUGEOT, a supporter at Valentigney.

On 9 june 1893, the first (French) conference was held at Rouen,
with deligates from 21 chapters. The delegates prepared for the
"Temperance Societies of the Blue Cross". Creation of their journal
LA CROIX BLEUE (The Blue Cross).

8 may 1904 - French Headquarters set up at :
33, rue des Saints-Pères - 75005 PARIS..
