Stamps similar to this one, described as a Priamur issue are listed on ebay. They are not under FER in Scott. Can anyone point me in the right direction. |

BeeSee,
they are listed in Scott under "Siberia". A lot of forgeries of those exist, so extreme caution is required! |

Hi BeeSee,
This 15k / 35k Nikolaevsk stamp is a clear forgery. The letters KOP and ZOL on this stamp should be be on diagonal not level (as they are on the 10k surcharge).

And here is the information that Nigel mentioned regarding the forged overpirnt from Nikolaevsk-on-Amur (from the Rossica Journal #80, p.20): and the forged cancel: |

This is my only used FER stamp, though the cancel could be forged. I cannot make out the date. It is the overprinted issue after the Soviets took control of FER in 1923. The last word at the bottom means gold, refering to gold rubles (I think). |

Thought I would show another of the FER issues, the so-called " Vladivostok Arms issue" (Scott FER #38-41). It was printed in Vladivostok and issued in late March 1921 to supplement the stock of DVR overprinted stamps. Their use appears to have been limited in southern Primorsk, given that very soon (May 1921) the White revolt led by Merkulov virtually detached this area from the FER. The design is very similar to the old imperial Arms, with the Romanov eagle replaced by the Provisional Government eagle and the text "FAR EASTERN REPUBLIC" inscribed around the coat of arms. The print-run was 620.000, 600.000, 850.000 and 1 million for the 2k, 4k, 5k and 10k denominations respectively. Valuation was in gold kopecks. Two of my stamps (2k,10k) are cancelled with a circular date stamp of Vladivostok, one of them (4k) with the oval postmark of Vladivostok vokzal (railway station) and one (5k) with the cds of Nikolsk-Ussuriisk. The March 1923 (?) cancel on the 2k block is unusual in that it is way past the formal incorporation of the FER into Soviet Russia (November 1922). |

I agree with your opinion about used stamps, BeeSee, especially when it comes to these issues.
Seeing your used stamp from the post-FER Soviet issue for the Far East, overprinted in gold kopecks, made me think of the possibility that remainders of the "Vladivostok Arms" issue (also valued in gold kopecks) might have remained in circulation during the first months of 1923 to cover postal needs. This might expain my block of 2k used in March 1923. I can find no reference about such use, but I think the Chita issue of the FER was likewise used during 1923. |

And here is a cover with the " Vladivostok Arms" issue from my collection: Posted on 8th of June, 1921 from Vladivostok to Belgium through (possibly the US and) London#8211; "registered" receiver of 13/7/1921. Registered with "#1047;" domestic registration label of Vladivostok + handstamped "REGISTERED". Franked at 21k with the full set of the "Vladivostok Arms" issue of FER (1k overfranking for the then applicable rate). Correspondence from the well-known stamp dealer Pappadopulo, of Greek origin, but residing in Vladivostok. |

Well, BeeSee, I guess we can keep this thread going with more examples of the FER stamps. By the way, your 10k overprinted stamp from the post-FER Soviet issue for the Far East is cancelled in Chita during October 1923 (as far as I can make out the date from the scan). |
