Deal me in after Barb, if there's any left.
I'll bid $1

When do we get the steak knives?

I have a reasonable collection of Ghana
that's been hidden away amongst the flotsam,
I'll have to do a quick reconnoiter.

I think the trick with Ghana, is the earlies, used.
they command a decent premium IIRC.

Rod, I had a look at Gibbons' latest thoughts on used early Ghana. They warn about CTO copies of the first set, indistinguishable from genuine used, and price the set mint at £11 and used at £9.75. The only really good one used seems to be the 5/- Inauguration of Black Star Shipping Line, at £3 against 45p mint. The Lincoln set are 30p mint and 45p used, with the MS at 55p and £2.25 used.

Thanks Tony, it's all coming back now,
I remember a discussion on rcsd from the late Mette Heindorf
regarding the first indep issue with the palmnut vulture.
Cheers for the update.
Browsing through Ghana, that is one hell of a collecting task

There was a bit of a scandal at the time concerning the CTO remainders. They were sold at a fraction of face value to two large American wholesalers and used for making up packets.

The postal authorities at the time justified the release of the remainders as follows:

Quote:
these issues, being significant for Ghana's history and cultural development, were considered important for wide distribution among young collectors and young folk in general.

The post-independence issues of Ghana have never recovered in the eyes of collectors.
