I found this old thread today about cataloguing stamps with a computer program. I assume a lot has changed in the past 7 years. Where does this conversation stand today? If I wanted to find a good software program or web-based program to categorize and keep record of my stamp collection, what should I use? Thanks!

I have a Mac and wouldn't use anything else... free upgrades etc. Yes, there are limits with software but I use Office for Mac which is my main program/s. To record my stamps I use a simple db I made up using Excel for Mac. Quite easy really. problem solved so I'm laughing. I still own just a Mac so I'm laughing even louder.

A few years later and I think the answer to the OP is still 'No. There are no dedicated stamp apps for the Mac."

However, in contrast, most people here don't use a dedicated "stamp app" on any platform. We use lots of apps to support our hobby: scanning, graphics, spreadsheets, database, etc.

Like many people, I use Microsoft Office (both Win and Mac) and the lack of Access for the Mac has always been a disappointment. And I've never felt inclined to pay the hefty price for FileMaker Pro.

One great thing I've discovered since the original discussion is that LibreOffice Base is a fabulous substitution for Access and it's Free Open Source Software (FOSS) which is good for my wallet and the universe. https://www.libreoffice.org/discover/base/

A lot of people say they keep a "database" in Excel. I'm OK with that; no need to mince words, but technically Excel is a spreadsheet, not a database, and lacks many of the more powerful tools in a true relational database. LibreOffice Base brings all that power to Mac, Windows, and Linux users.
