Can somebody assist here?
I am having a recall problem,
I was mounting these Aussie Cinderellas,
and it occurred to me one stamp in particular
was a modern take on an old (very old) US film series.

I cannot recall the series, it was old (black and white)
it centred on a bunch of kids in a really poor
community, there was a "billy cart" and a black child
who, whenever he saw a (perceived) ghost, his eyes would bulge
and a little black girl with stick out pig tails.

Anyone recall the name of the series?

Anyhow...The Aussie Cinders that pop up from
time to time, but never identified.

The more famous members of the gang were Pete (the dog) Spanky (far right next to the dog), Buckwheat, the funny little african-american kid with hair that stands up straight, and Alfalfa, skinny kid with squeaky voice, and a cowlick that stands straight up. Most of these were in later years.

I can't remember all of them. I think the 4th from right kid with hat is 'Butch'. Darla was the girl with pigtails. The name of the blonde girl in Rod's pic is on the tip of my tongue, but I can't remember.

Good memories. When I was a kid, these were Saturday morning shows, along with the 3 Stooges and Looney Tunes (Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, Sylvester & Tweety, etc).

Rod, nice stamps looks kind of like the Rotary club emblem on them.
Kirk, little girl was Darla (my sister-in-law was named after her).

That pic is from the 1934 episode called "Honkey Donkey" 3rd kid from the left is Wally a "spoiled rich kid" who just wants to have some fun. He was only in 2 films and this grouping of kids only appears in one of them that's how you can tell. Sadly all of those pictured are dead. Most having died destitute or very close to it. The Coogan Act didn't happen until many years after these films.

from right to left: Petey the dog, Spanky, Scotty, (can't Remember), Tommy, (can't remember ,only in 3 shorts), William ?, Wally, Stymie, (also can't remember).

I used to watch these on TV as a kid as well (reruns of course, I'm a child of the 60s). I believe the actor Robert Blake (Baretta and wife murder trial fame) was a member of the later incarnations of this series as Mickey.
