While browsing old issues in the Canadian Philately magazine I came across an article on a stamp club that was on CBC Radio (the Canadian Broadcasting Company) starting I think in 1950. The club was called the CBC Stamp Club and was "designed to assist Canadian children to enjoy the fascinating hobby". With a 10 cent membership fee you got a package of 50 stamps to start or add to your collection, a membership button and a copy of a publication called How To Start A Stamp Collection by club president Douglas Patrick.

At one point the club had over 7500 members and not just from Canada but from other countries around the world who probably received the program over short-wave radio. The announcers were the above-mentioned Douglas Patrick and eleven-year-old Jane Hutton.

I listened only to CKNX Wingham at the time so was not aware of this program. Was anyone who follows Stamp Community Forum a member or listen to the program and does anyone know if Jane Hutton is still with us? Does anyone still have their membership button?
