Interesting Dave9911, I did blow up my stamp and have seen the "P" and the "1953" that is hard to see with the naked eye....Thanks for that.

Hi Puzzler

Now I understand that information must be taken from different sources rather that from one catalog...Makes life interesting to say the least trying to find some thing....I am a little concerned about basing the worth of any stamp that ebay is selling, because the true value of stamps are not realized for the fact that say, a $100.00 stamp could sell for say $15.00 on ebay...To me that is a bad place to obtain stamp value.

Not necessarily, but some do. But it's fun to get out your loupe on a rainy Sunday afternoon like today, and look for them (is that pathetic? Help me out here!)
My own avatar has a small H for Emanuel Otto Hahn, next to his left fin (right side of stamp) All of the wildlife stamps that Hahn did from the 50s were signed. The 1957 loon has LH for Laurence Hyde. Many had the year small like shown on the textile stamp.
You'll see designer initial on Canadian coins all the time. I don't know about other countries

I have noticed it on Canadian coins, your right, but will forever check out stamps for the same identification marks...

It looks like by the mid 1930s when Canadian Bank Note took over, Herman Herbert Schwartz was THE guy to design stamps in Canada, and he didn't appear to sign his work, though he did include the date. Perhaps it was inappropriate to put your initials on the monarchs face.
In 1952 Mr. Pollock appeared with the Forestry Products stamp (#316) but I can't find his P on it anywhere. Hahn's first stamp was the 1952 Canada Goose and his big H is quite prevalent.
Some did and some didn't. Gerald Mathew Trottier who seems to have appeared in 1958 had a nice GT monogram.

An interesting aside (in my mind anyway) the 1957 Mining Stamp (#373)was designed by A.J. Casson of the Group of Seven (famous Canadian painting collective of the early 20th century, for all you non-Canucks) Doesn't appear to have signed it, but I'll keep looking!

Two slightly different constant perforation gauge measurements can be found on this stamp (11.90+ vs 11.80+).
