Indypex This Weekend!
2011 September 30

Hadn't seen any post about the show this weekend, so...

INDYPEX is this weekend, Sep. 30 - Oct. 2, and is being held at the Wyndham Indianapolis West, 2544 Executive Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46241.

Hours are 11-6 Friday, 10-6 Saturday, and 10-4 Sunday.

I believe that parking is free and there is no admission fee, but the show website does not say for certain: http://indianastampclub.org/indy.html

Anyone thinking of attending, be forewarned: The exit off I465 South to Sam Jones Expressway that you would normally take to get to the Wyndham is CLOSED. It threw me for a loop, as I'm not familiar with Indianapolis. You have to go down to I-70 and come back up.

The exit from Sam Jones Expressway to I465 North, however, is still open, so no effect on a return trip.

The attendence today seemed very sparse, and many dealers were lamenting this fact. Also, for the first time ever, they charged an admission fee to get in. It was only $2, but it's the principle of the thing. I heard quite a few collectors complaining about this.

People do not like this new venue or the policies of INDYPEX compared to other shows, e.g., out-of-town dealers are forced to stay at the show hotel even though it is relatively expensive compared to other local hotels.

When I compare the dealer attitudes towards the venue and the organization putting on INDYPEX, and compare it with sentiments I hear them make about CHICAGOPEX, the Chicago MSDA shows, and the St. Louis Expo, in my opinion their reaction about INDYPEX is FAR more negative overall. Combine that with poor attendance, and it doesn't bode well for the show going forward...
