I was putting the Egypt collection into the album today, and noted that Scott describes two types of vignettes for the 1927 King Faud issue.

Here is an image of the 4m yellow green & the 5m dark red brown...

Both of these stamps illustrated can either exist as Type I or Type II.

Initially, the early printings of some of these issues were printed from plates with screens of vertical dots in the vignettes (Type I) according to Scott.

The later printings (which are more common) were printed from plates with screens giving diagonal dots in the vignettes. (Type II)

So take a closer look at the vignette of the 5m...

The dots seem diagonal especially evident on the neck.
I believe this is a Type II vignette. Agree or disagree?

Now take a look at the 4m yellow green..

The dots in the vignette appear to be horizontal and vertical?

If so, this is a Type I cataloging at $10 rather than 40 cents.

So have I hit a little jackpot or not?

Good morning jkblue
My 2005 Stanley Gibbons Middle East Part 19 says "There are considerable differences in the mesh of the screens used at various periods......the dots of which the design is composed run either diagonally or vertically". However they do not quote a different catalogue number for these in my catalogue.
Now I need to double check all my King Fuads, if Scott says there is a considerable valuation difference!

Thanks DavidR for the collaborative information from SG.

The information from the 2011 Scott Classic Specialized catalogue states that the two types are found on seven denominations: the 1m orange ,2m black ,3m olive brown,4m yellow green,5m dark red brown,10m dark red,and 15m ultramarine.

Type II is given the major number in each case and is close to minimum catalogue value for used. Scott assigns a minor number "a" to the Type I's and gives them a valuation. Type I's are in the 30-75 cent range, except for the 2m black ($5) and the 4m yellow green ($10).

I had perhaps about 20 stamps to examine for these denominations, but found only one Type I (if that is what it is) for the 4m yellow green. Unfortunately, I don't have a Type II for that stamp to compare.

Based on my limited sample, it appears the Type I's are not found frequently. It might be interesting to check one's collection.
