East Africa and Uganda Protectorates
"Edward VII"
1907 Scott 33 (left stamp) & 1910 33a (right stamp) 6c carmine

(SG identifies these as 36 6c red & 43 6c red)

Scott lists two changes to the redrawn engraving of the 1910 (single plate) 33a

But there are more....How many do you see?

1. Horizontal Shading has changed
2. dot on end of number 6 in upper right is bigger
3. Shading in leaves seems to have gotten loess
4. "Protectorates" is larger size
5. Width of inside white corder seems wider (perhaps an optical illusion)
6. Berries more defined
and I have to go for a walk now, but that may or may not be enough.

Bob

I don't collect these issues, but in just observing the two stamps side-by-side, I can easily see the following:

It's hard to see because of the cancels, but I think the block with the numeric denomination is butted up against the frame of the right stamp, but there is lower in the left stamp.

Also, the horizontal line shading on either side of the crown is filled in more on the left stamp than the one on the right.

Rod, Thanks for the flashing "Baldy"

Clearly brings out the differences.

I bookmarked the site for future reference....

You can creat the same effect by scanning
the two stamps at the same dpi, crop to the edge
of the printed image then toggle using the wheelmouse
this identifies flyspecks easily.

One has to be cognisant of the differences
created by the volume and viscosity of the ink applied,
it can create errors of judgement.
