Was at an estate auction today and picked up a pile of old canceled cheques dated from 1946-49, each having a excise stamp or 3c KGVI stamp.
They are all signed by the same person, E.B. Mallory from Blenheim Ontario. Blenheim is a small south western Ontario farming community near Lake Erie.
This one caught my eye.

Notice the note down at the bottom near the signature. P.O.W. Labour
There's a deposit (rubber) stamp on the back from the Ontario Farm Service Force, Chatham Camp.
I knew Canada held POWs, many German, here during the war. But the cheque is dated December 12, 1946, well after the war ended.VE day was in May of 1945.
I wonder why they kept them working here for so long after? Any WWII buffs that can shed light?
