Picked up these cinderellas from Zaragoza yesterday at the stamp club boarse. I found the previous threads about these stamps, and found it quite interesting. Obviously these are from two different sets. Which just means I'll have to be on the look out for the rest. The last image of 12 stamps, I'm thinking of breaking down to a more managable size of 4 or 6 stamps. So if anyone is interested in one or more of these, let me know and they could be yours. Here's a closeup of one of these. Many of these labels were there in unruly sheets like the last image. Not complete sheets, and some of the stamps starting to separate. I'd already bought the 12 before realizing it would be easier with smaller blocks, so with the rest I purchased only those smaller groups. Interesting anyway. So is the concensus that these were used to promote a seminary at the church at Zaragoza?

In my view they're charity labels, printed in the decades of 1950 or 1960 by "Rieusset" in Barcelona (still working, as far as I know), to raise money for the Zaragoza Seminary (catholic priests school). As you perhaps know, giving money for pious works makes easier for catholics to cross "Heaven's doors"... |

A quick google search tells me Sin Valor Postal means 'No Postal Value'
Any ideas what the images might be? I assume the airplane stamp shows a view of the seminary itself. But the others appear to be biblical scenes. Any biblical scholars out there? |

25 cts. Saint Vincent's martirium (no idea of where this painting is), 1 pta. River Ebro and Temple of El Pilar (Zaragoza's Cathedral). If you post the 1st and 2nd cinderellas at the same size of the last, I'll be able to read and translate the text below the images. |

Ah yes, Cersus. I see where the inscriptions are. The other two read Muerte S. Vicente and Ante el tirano Did a quick google search for paintings of St. Vincent, but couldn't find the source images. |

The translation is
1pta.- Death of St. Vincent 0.25 pta.- In front of the tyran
It seems that there was a Huesca or Zaragoza (Northeast Spain)christian priest named Vicent, who circa 300 AD, soufered martyrdom and was killed by the Roman Imperial authorities in Valencia, during the Diocletian prosecution of christian. Became saint and is the saint patron of Huesca, Valencia, Lisbon, among other Iberian cities. The illustrations seem to come from fresco paintings, perhaps on the walls of the seminary. But, I've no idea about. |

Two more towards the SCF collection....... Camarin A Camarín is a shrine or chapel set above and behind the High altar in a church, but still visible from the body of the church. They are especially found in Spain and Portugal, and throughout Latin America. George Kubler and Martin Soria, in "Art and Architecture of Spain and Portugal", trace the typology to the mid-15th century Aragonese "viril", a window in the high altar created to display the consecrated host. According to Kubler and Soria, the "camarin" is first utilized in the Desamparados Church (Valencia) designed by Diego Martinez Ponce de Urrana 1652-1657. In de Uranna's design one passes from the oval nave through one of two doorways flanking the high altar. These open on to chambers, at the rear of which stairways lead to the rear of the camarin, so that one emerges into the space looking out on the nave beyond....wiki Provecto? |

There are plenty of them, around. Printed in Barcelona on the 1940's or 50's by "Rieusset"(The Printer is still on the bussiness). The status is uncertain. Charity stamps? Cinderellas? Bogus stamps to get Money from innocent collectors? Most likely, the last! |
