On Thursday, November 10, at 1:00pm, Canada Post is releasing THREE Picture Postage(tm) stamps featuring the new Winnipeg Jets NHL hockey team.

Two panes will sell for $24.95 each (home and away logo/jersey?), while a third (specially serially numbered) pane will sell for $34.95.

In addition, a $4.95 postcard (?) is being released.

I'll post images when I buy the stamps tomorrow.

[Presumably these are the same as the recent Diwali, Eid and Hanukkah Picture Postage stamps.]

Studystamps, I do not see them yet on the Canada Post website. Any idea if they will be available from Canada Post like the Diwali stamps, or are strictly a private issue of the Winnipeg Jets?

I expect these will show up soon on the Canada Post website.

I believe they are just like the Eid/Diwali/Hanukkah ... issued by Canada Post.

I don't think they are private issues by Canada Post.

I saw the same article in the Vancouver Sun this morning, but it gave the impression that a single regular commemorative stamp would be issued, nothing was mentioned about it being a Picture postage issue.

BeeSee:

That was the impression I had too from the local newspaper. A call to our post office though gave more details as they have them, ready to sell tomorrow.

I haven't personally seen them, but they were described to me as noted at the start of this thread.

By the way, the third pane was noted as showing "the first Jet goal".

Re: Postcard

Based on the description provided to me by my local post office (who have the stamps, etc.), they felt it was a post card. The postal indicia though is not the "Flag over Building". [Sorry, I forget what they described it as.]

Based on the price, I thought what she was describing was a Commemorative Event envelope.

Unfortunately I don't have a vehicle to get to the post office to see the items in person. We'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I'll post images tomorrow afternoon. Still nothing on the Canada Post or Winnipeg Jets websites.

Well since they being sold at the Winnipeg post office (and probably others) I personally consider them official Canadian stamps, like the Write Me Ring Me issues.

I also consider the 2002 75th anniversary of the Toronto Maple Leafs Picture Postage stamp an official issue that should have catalog status.

The same goes for the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association issue of 2007.

It is 11:30am my time. The three stamps and prepaid postcard are to be unveiled and released at the MTS Centre (Winnipeg Jets arena) at 1:00pm today.

Post offices in Toronto also have the stamps for sale, but not until 1pm.

I will be pickin up the new items this afternoon and will post pictures ASAP (likely by 5pm CDT).

Just went to my post office...they did not get any...it seems a very limited number of PO are gonna get them from the list I saw.

I'm going to go tomorrow morning to one of the PO in Montréal to try and get some. Or at least look at what they look like. They look expensive.

Here are the stamps. They are Picture Postage(tm), in panes of 21, just like all other Picture Postage (but with a UPC barcode at the left side of the pane, and the pane 'date' at the lower left is now 09 2011).

And the prepaid postcard (both sides):

I'll post images of the panes next.

I also got mine on Ottawa at 1:00pm today. The clerk had to open her packages to sell me one sheet of each, and the post card.

On the postcard, is that a real stamp? Does the postcard come with that on it or does it have some indicia beneath that stamp? Can you get three postcards with one each having a different stamp on?

Love the cancel too.

Now all the other hockey teams will want their own stamps! Oh Noooo!

And then Baseball and football and who knows what?

Why can't they do something important like cats!?? Whhhhyyyy? OK, I will do cats. Youse guys can have your hockey mucks, I mean pucks.
